Reception

2018-2019

Miss Luff and Mrs Nolan welcome you as the children begin their learning journey here at St. Peter's Catholic Primary School.

This is a very important and exciting  year and we will work in partnership with you to care for and educate your child. We aim to offer new opportunities to your child to help draw out their ability and potential, helping each individual to grow and develop in preparation for the future.

Our Catholic Faith is at the heart of everything we do in Reception Class. Your child will learn that Jesus loves us all and that we are special. We all try hard to treat everyone that we meet with love and respect, just as Jesus did.

Your child will be learning skills, gaining new knowledge and demonstrating understanding through seven areas of learning and development.

The three prime areas are:

  • Communication and Language;
  • Physical Development;
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

Your child will also develop skills in four specific areas. These are:

  • Literacy;
  • Mathematics;
  • Understanding the World;
  • Expressive Arts and Design.

Topic: Marvellous Me

We have really enjoyed our first half term at St Peter's. We love 'Wellie Wednesday' where we get the chance to explore outdoors.

We embrace designing and making. Sharing ideas with each other.

We have enjoyed performing on the 'St Peter's Stars' stage.

We have had some important visitors this term and they have explained their jobs in the local community.

The Little Red Hen

Our first school topic started with a crime scene... Last night someone broke into our classroom and started baking bread in our café role play area. They left such a mess, there were flour, pots and pans every where this morning. We found out that it was The Little Red Hen that made the mess. After we cleaned up the mess,  we found the story of The Little Red Hen and learnt the actions to help us retell the story.

Throughout the topic we looked at the different patterns in different types of bread and tried to copy them using play dough. We really enjoyed making our own bread rolls and bringing them home to share with our families.  We also really enjoyed our trip to Mount Pleasant School Farm, we helped Nina and Farmer Giles with their daily routines of taking care of the different animals.

Reception have been getting hands on in the morning with their learning, and getting their parents involved as well.
