At St Peter's Catholic Primary School, prayer and liturgy are central to our mission and daily life. Through prayer, worship and reflection, we nurture our relationship with God and help our children grow as disciples of Christ. Prayer and liturgy provide opportunities for our school community to come together in faith, deepen our understanding of the Gospel and celebrate God's presence in our lives.

In line with the Prayer and Liturgy Directory, prayer and liturgy are inclusive, invitational and inspirational. We strive to create meaningful opportunities for all members of our community to encounter God through Scripture, silence, reflection, music, prayer and liturgical celebration.

Children are active participants in prayer and liturgy. From Reception to Year 6, pupils progressively develop the skills and confidence to plan, prepare and lead prayer and liturgical experiences. They learn how to select Scripture, choose appropriate prayers, create reflective focal points and lead others in worship. This enables children to take ownership of their spiritual development and respond to God's call in their daily lives.

Prayer and liturgy take place in a variety of settings across the school, including classrooms, the school hall, Mary's Grotto and our school chapel. These special spaces provide opportunities for both communal and personal prayer, helping children to recognise that prayer can take place anywhere and at any time.

Throughout the liturgical year, pupils participate in a wide range of celebrations including Masses, prayer services, liturgies, Gospel reflections and seasonal celebrations such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week and Easter. These experiences help children to develop a deeper understanding of the Church's liturgical life and strengthen their faith journey.

We value the important partnership between home, school and parish. Each class has opportunities to invite parents and families to join them for prayer and liturgy throughout the year. These occasions allow families to share in their children's spiritual development and strengthen the faith-filled community that makes St Peter's such a special place.

Through prayer and liturgy, we aim to develop children who know that they are loved by God, who are confident in expressing their faith and who are inspired to live out the Gospel values in their everyday lives.
