Oracy

What is Oracy?

Oracy is the ability to articulate ideas, develop understanding and engage with others through spoken language.
Voice 21.

At St Peter's we work hard to provide a high quality Oracy education. With Oracy at the heart of our curriculum, we are committed to embedding a culture of Oracy where all our children are equipped with the communication skills to succeed in later life. Purposeful talk is used to drive forward learning, through talk in the classroom. Our dialogue has been planned, designed, modelled, scaffolded to enable all learners to develop the skills needed to talk with confidence. Oracy develops pupils' confidence, articulacy and capacity to learn. Providing a high quality Oracy education empowers students, regardless of their background, to find their voice for success in school and in life.

At St Peter's, the Oracy skills have been mapped out to each year group, to ensure that children are making those small steps into becoming confident speakers.

St Peter's Oracy Progression of Skills

Our teachers carefully plan our sentence stems, we encourage our children to use, from the sentence stem progression. We based this off Tower Hamlets progression of skills.
