At St Peter’s Primary School, writing is at the heart of our learning. We believe that the ability to communicate effectively through writing is a fundamental skill that empowers our children to express their ideas, creativity, and knowledge with confidence.
Our writing curriculum is designed to inspire a love for language, nurture creativity, and develop strong technical skills. Through a rich variety of texts, purposeful writing opportunities, and engaging experiences, we encourage our pupils to become enthusiastic and capable writers.
We aim for all our children to:
Write with purpose – understanding the importance of writing in different contexts and for a range of audiences.
Develop a love of writing – through exposure to high-quality literature and exciting writing opportunities.
Secure strong foundational skills – in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and handwriting.
Be imaginative and expressive – using their own voice to engage and inspire others.
Edit and improve – developing resilience and independence in refining their work.
Writing is woven across our curriculum, ensuring children see themselves as authors in all subjects. Through high expectations, a nurturing environment, and support tailored to each child, we equip our pupils with the confidence and skills they need to flourish as lifelong writers.
