PE Intent
At St Peter’s Catholic Primary School, we pride ourselves on providing a high-quality Physical Education curriculum that enables all of our children, irrelevant of their background, to perform at the highest levels possible. Physical Education plays a vital role in developing the child holistically. We provide a broad and aspirational curriculum that immerses the children in a wide variety of sports while providing them with pathways to further develop their love of sport.
Physical Education curriculum development within the Early Years Foundation Stage focuses on improving:
• Coordination
• Control
• Manipulation
• Special awareness
• Movement
Physical Education within the primary years focuses on the National Curriculum key aims:
• To develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
• To be physically active for sustained periods of time
• To engage in competitive sports and activities
• To lead healthy and active lives
To achieve this, we aim to have strong partnerships both between our parents and carers but also with the wider community and our local area. We strive to do this through collaboration with local schools and also inviting parents to participate and attend a wide variety of sporting events.
We aim to provide opportunities for our children to become confident and physically competent individuals who have a sound knowledge of what is undertaken in a healthy lifestyle. We provide opportunities to experience a rich variety of physical activities and also to understand nutrition and how this can impact on your well-being. In addition to this, we aim to provide opportunities for children to compete in sport and other activities in order to build resilience and embed values such as teamwork, fairness and respect. We pride ourselves on providing opportunities to attend both competitive and non-competitive events and aim to include all children from Early Years right through KS2.
By providing a wide range of physical development activities we aim to allow out children to develop healthy and positive attitudes and activities that can last them throughout their lives.
